Hallå! Jag är inne på min andra vecka på jobbet, och än så länge känns det riktigt bra. Så himla skönt att veta att man tjänar pengar, så tristessen och de tidiga morgnarna försvinner i glömska. När jag kommer hem från jobbet fördriver jag tiden med att läsa. Är inne i ett sånt där underbart lässtadium just nu, vill bara sluka allt. Den senaste veckan har jag hunnit med att läsa The Hunger Games och Catching Fire (igen), och dessutom The Ice Cream Girls av Dorothy Koomson som jag fick låna av en tjej på jobbet. Bra bok! Nu har jag inget nytt att läsa, så därför ägnar jag tiden mellan telefonsamtalen på jobbet med att sammanställa en lista på böcker jag vill läsa. Kan ju vara bra att ha i åtanke eftersom jag fyller år om exakt en vecka också (hint hint). Det är en salig blanding av klassiker och dystopiska ungdoms- och vuxenromaner.

The Scarlet Letter, av Nathaniel Hawthorne

The Scarlet Letter follows the public shaming and punishment of a young woman named Hester Prynne in mid-17th century Boston (a.k.a. the Massachusetts Bay Colony). When Hester becomes pregnant, everyone believes her to be guilty of adultery: she has been separated from her husband for two full years, and the baby cannot be his. The magistrates (local law enforcers) and ministers order her to wear a scarlet letter "A" on the bodice of her dress, so that everyone can know about her adultery.

Tally lives in a world where your sixteenth birthday brings aesthetic perfection: an operation which erases your flaws, transforming you from an ‘Ugly’ into a ‘Pretty’. She is on the eve of this important event, and cannot wait for her life to change. But then she meets Shay, who is also fifteen – but with a very different outlook on life. Before her operation she plans to escape to a community in the forest – the Rusty Ruins – where Uglies go to escape ‘ turning’.

Tally won’t be persuaded to join her, as this would involve sacrificing everything she’s ever wanted for a lot of uncertainty. When she is taken in for questioning on her birthday, however, Tally gets sent to the Ruins anyway – against her will. The state wants her to go on an undercover mission and report back about the location of the community; otherwise she will forfeit her birthday operation.

What she discovers in the Ruins reveals that there is nothing ‘pretty’ about the transformations…

Brave New World, av Aldous Huxley

"Community, Identity, Stability" is the motto of Aldous Huxley's utopian World State. Here everyone consumes daily grams of soma, to fight depression, babies are born in laboratories, and the most popular form of entertainment is a "Feelie," a movie that stimulates the senses of sight, hearing, and touch. Though there is no violence and everyone is provided for, Bernard Marx feels something is missing and senses his relationship with a young women has the potential to be much more than the confines of their existence allow.

Armageddon's Children, av Terry Brooks

In this exciting first of a new fantasy trilogy, bestseller Brooks effortlessly connects the Tolkien-infused magic of his Shannara books (First King of Shannara, etc.) with the urban, postapocalyptic world of his Word and the Void series (Running with the Demon, etc.). The author envisions a chilling near-future U.S., where civilization has collapsed from environmental degradation, plagues, global warfare and supernatural threats.
